Embracing Heritage and Health: The Journey of DeAnne Moore and New Traditions Midwifery

Introducing DeAnne Moore, APRN, CNM

Meet DeAnne Moore, the passionate founder of New Traditions Midwifery, located in League City. DeAnne is not only an advanced practice registered nurse but also a certified nurse midwife. Her mission is to enhance women’s health during pregnancy and beyond by blending evidence-based alternative medicine with low-intervention allopathic care.

At New Traditions Midwifery, the emphasis is on empowering women with the knowledge needed to make informed decisions about their health journeys. With a belief that pregnancy, birth, and breastfeeding are natural and healthy processes, DeAnne supports safe home births with trained professionals. Recognizing the importance of spiritual, cultural, ethnic, and religious traditions, the practice is dedicated to helping women honor their unique practices while inviting family support into the birthing space.

A Rich Background and Education

DeAnne Moore’s journey in healthcare began over 25 years ago, primarily working with cardiac patients as a registered nurse. Her experience with an OB group during her own pregnancy inspired her to pursue midwifery, motivated by the lack of personalized care and the absence of Certified Nurse Midwives not affiliated with major hospital systems in League City.

In 2018, DeAnne enrolled at Frontier Nursing University, a prestigious institution in the United States for training Nurse-Midwives. Completing her studies in March 2020, she faced the challenge of securing a clinical placement due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Undeterred, she found an opportunity on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, working tirelessly with midwives to provide care to Indigenous women and families. This experience was transformative, fostering emotional, spiritual, and cultural growth.

Reconnecting with Heritage

DeAnne’s time in South Dakota allowed her to reconnect with her Choctaw heritage. As a registered member of the Choctaw Tribe of Oklahoma, she learned to integrate Indigenous traditions into modern Western hospital care. Her journey continued in New Mexico, where she expanded her knowledge of Indigenous midwifery at the Northern Navajo Medical Center in 2021.

Following graduation, DeAnne accepted a Fellowship at the Holy Family Birth Center in Weslaco, TX. This experience at the oldest birth center in the United States honed her skills in independently managing healthy, vaginal births and exposed her to the broader challenges faced by women in poverty, including untreated chronic conditions.

Establishing New Traditions Midwifery

In 2023, DeAnne returned to League City, where she has lived for over 25 years, to open New Traditions Midwifery. Her dedication to the community is evident, with her family deeply rooted in the area. DeAnne’s husband, Wayne Moore, serves as the Program Director for Galveston County Child Protective Services, and their children are part of the local school system.

New Traditions Midwifery was founded to address the scarcity of midwifery services in the region. The practice is committed to offering cost-effective care with transparent pricing, ensuring no surprise bills. Besides traditional midwifery services, New Traditions also provides low-cost access to prescription weight loss medications, reflecting DeAnne’s holistic approach to women’s health.

With a blend of cultural wisdom and modern medical practices, New Traditions Midwifery stands as a beacon of compassionate and comprehensive care for women in League City and beyond.
